Entry 48 - Bao, by Julianne Han

Bao by Julianne Han (@jujujujuhan and @softlylitflames)

Hello! My name is Julianne Han and I am a Taiwanese-Korean American. I’m an avid writer, and mostly write poetry and short stories as a hobby. The majority of my work addresses mental health issues, my background as an Asian American and a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and social justice issues. But I love writing witty things as well!

Bao is a short story that features a local baozi (Chinese meat bun) shop owner and her daughter. The story is based on real hate crimes against Asian Americans that have taken place during the pandemic, showing how fear and panic have sparked racist comments, crime, and harassment in search of someone to blame.
